My name is Buddy but my humans call me “The Kid.” I am a portly 16-pound orange Tabby with a wicked temper.
When I was six, my humans and I moved to the desert to live with my 90-year old Ji-chan the Human. Ji-chan loved to watch sumo matches on Japanese TV, and soon, I too became addicted to the sport. I loved Ji-chan. He used to say I reminded him of a sumo wrestler as he pointed to my pear-shaped rear end. I took it as a compliment. One night as we were watching the final sumo championship series, Ji-chan surprised me with a bite-size morsel of tuna sashimi. It was the most delectable grub I’ve ever eaten. I dreamt of sushi and tuna rolls that night.
The next morning, I heard my Mom sobbing hysterically in the kitchen as my Dad paced nervously up and down the hallway. I was puzzled and scared. I went to look for Ji-chan but he was nowhere to be found. When Mom finally noticed me, she picked me up and told me Ji-chan had gone to Heaven during the night.
It’s been 5 years since Ji-chan left for Heaven. I don’t know where Heaven is but I hope he comes back soon. I miss him.
I wonder if they watch sumo in Heaven?
